Euphrasia

Euphrasia, who is 15 years old, is a bright and charismatic teenager, full of life and hope. She lives with her mother, father, and two brothers in Kirinyaga, Kenya, which is roughly five hours from the Cure Hospital located in Kijabe.

Early in her childhood, Euphrasia displayed an alarmingly severe and painful case of scoliosis. She had her first surgery at 13 years old, then was put in touch with the specialists at Cure for a much needed followup consult. Her evaluation led to a revision scoliosis surgery.

She was up walking shortly afterward, with minimal pain. Having had a previous surgery, this put Euphrasia in a position where she could leverage her previous experience to act as a patient supporter and educator for the other children who had corrective spinal surgery. Every day, Euphrasia would make her ‘rounds’ and encourage her newfound friends. Her radiant smile and glowing positivity put everyone at ease.

Euphrasia’s attitude, in addition to her familial support, made her an ideal candidate for postsurgery intervention. Following treatment, Euphrasia aspires to continue her active, healthy lifestyle, which largely revolves around playing football with her brothers and friends. We’re confident her healing and stability of her spine will continue to improve the quality of her life by reducing pain. We were so lucky to have her as a patient advocate, and we’d love to hear how she’s doing in her pursuit to become a professional pilot!
