Delvan

Delvan’s illness began with a simple change in his posture and walk. But in 2021, his mother thought that his new, bent-over walking style might be more than Delvan trying to adopt teenage swag. While he has plenty of swag, Delvan had an illness that would change his life.

Delvan’s parents took him to the doctor, who determined that he had severe idiopathic scoliosis that would require surgery. Delvan and his parents were concerned about the risks and unable to afford the surgery. Luckily, they were referred to AIC CURE in Kijabe and introduced to Dr. Theuri. Dr. Theuri told Delvan and his parents that a spine surgeon, Dr. Craig Humphreys, would soon be visiting from the United States and that the Carolyn Jane Foundation supported such patients as Delvan.

In October of 2021, when Delvan was 19 years old, he and his parents returned to Cure Kijabe for surgery. They met withDr. Theuri and Dr. Humphreys to discuss the surgery and pray for the outcome. Delvan’s dad described the seven hours surgery as the longest hours of his life, but the short hours of Delvan’s.

When Delvan was in recovery, his mobility increased in just three days. Not to mention his height: he was two inches taller following the procedure! The surgery was financed by the National Hospital Insurance Fund, AIC CURE Kijabe, and the Carolyn Jane Foundation.

Delvan has now fully recovered and is back to normal life, swag and all. He and his family visited Kijabe to participate in the ground breaking ceremony of Carolyn Jane Foundation House.

Delvan will be starting his first year of University this January 2023. He will be studying at Nairobi Technical Training Institute to pursue a diploma in Automotive Engineering.
